Donate to the Joe Hannah Human-Pyrogeography Grant

Joe Hannah was one of the first board members of the American Wildfire Experience. In honor of his legacy, we are creating a grant that celebrates his life-long passion for human geography and learning.

In the coming months, we will create a framework for the grant that blends the exploration of human geography with pyrogeography, serving to support projects and research examining the interrelationships between people, place, and wildland fire, and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between landscapes and locations.

Joe walked this earth with endless curiosity about the world around him and with this grant we aim to support others doing the same. It will provide funding opportunities for remarkable people doing compelling, important work–helping us better understand our human relationships with wildland fire and the social, cultural, and environmental landscapes within which they burn.

Join us today by donating to the Joe Hannah Human-Pyrogeography Grant fund.
