2021 Micro-Grant Recipient: Joshua Skinner

About Joshua:

I am a wildland firefighter for BC Wildfire Service, I was born and raised in the tinderbox that is the interior of British Columbia. I started wildland firefighting with the local Unit crew in Kamloops in 2019, as a fresh high school graduate with no idea what I was doing. Now in year three, armed with a Pulaski and my camera, I’m still loving every minute of it.

Grant Category: Videography/Photography

Behind the Wildfire Fighters: What you don’t see

Project Vision:

I will be creating a 10 minute video about what wheels are set in motion when the public calls in a fire, who responds to the calls, and what they do. I will also produce some awesome photos, with captions, and other fire season video content.

Favorite thing about firefighting:

My favorite thing about wildland firefighting is the awesome places you see, the vast range of remarkable humans you encounter, and the different stories they tell.
