2019 Micro-Grant Winner: Krystal Hazen-McCreary

About Krystal:

I am an archaeologist, incident management team member, graduate student, nonprofit director, and wildland firefighter living in Wyoming. In my free time I enjoy biking, skiing, reading, writing, and hiking.

Grant Category: Writing

Project Vision:

My digital storytelling project is called Boots in Both Worlds and will be comprised of profile pieces on women working in fire or fire support who also fill multiple other roles in life. My vision for this project is to use the advice, ambition, and experiences of successful women in fire to empower others to pursue or expand their careers in fire. By producing profiles on the strong, empowered, women who have found fulfillment working in and supporting the fire program, I hope to convey that there truly is a place for everyone in fire. The AWE grant will help purchase artwork, design programs, and website features to share and promote the stories collected for the Boots in Both Worlds series on the ThoughtFire Media website, as well as, through social media outlets.

Previous Work:

Favorite thing about wildland firefighting:

Working for a cause greater than myself with people who are exceptional leaders that recognize the potential in others and help them grow.
